Ha. Just water vapor. Looks like the tassels on bike handlebars, though.

I saw a C-5 take off in person. After that everything I know about physics is a lie.
No video or picture does justice for how big those damn things are. And how slow they look like their going after they take off.

Want to see something crazy? Watch this video of a C-5B taking off followed by a C-5M with the new engines. That will really destroy your conception of physics.

That might be the worst film of a cool aircraft ever taken.

A C5 did the flyover at Laguna Seca some years ago, it must have been damn near stall speed because it looked like it was going to fall out of the sky, then they throttled its nuts off on the way out. Blew my mind.

I used to race at a dirt track that was along side of a national guard air force base in Mass. The usual planes were A-10's. The enterance road to the pits was actually the end of the runway. They would come over so low + slow you could tell what the pilots looked like. One Saturday I was strapped in my car waiting to run when it got instantly dark-and stayed dark for what seemed like a long time. A C-5 was diverted from another base and was approaching for the runway. Holy shit-that thing was big-and slow! It blocked the sun!

How loud were the A-10s? When I was in Afghanistan those things were so loud you couldn’t hear yourself think. I’d think they do something to quite the noise down when flying near civilian populations.

We were on the end of the runway where they were landing (probably 1000ft from putting it down on the numbers)-so power was low. And the track was all motorcycle powered vehicles-normal noise level was pretty busy to begin with. I don’t remember them being ear-shattering.
